Manaslu Circuit Trek - 16 Days Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Kathmandu (1400m. / 4593ft.)

Our Trekking Plus Adventure Company, representative will meet you outside the airport with your name card and drop you at the hotel that we booked for you. We will meet at the evening in our office for a detailed briefing, where you will be introduced to your guide and complete the remaining payment. Our trek/tour leader will review your gear list , and recommend any last-minute essential purchases. In case you arrive earlier or later in the evening, we can reschedule the meeting accordingly. Afternoon stroll around thamel and spicy market Overnight in a deluxe hotel in Kathmandu with breakfast.

Day 2

Trek Permit preparation day and free day for sightseeing.

Today, we will process the special and restricted permits required for the Manaslu Circuit Trek. While your permits are being prepared, you can do half day sightseeing around kathmandu valley escorted by one of our professional tour guide. During the tour, you get to visit three temples, Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath Stupa, and Boudhanath Stupa, and learn about Nepali history, culture, art, and architecture. Day 3

Drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola (900m./2953ft.), Distance: 166km./ 103.1miles., about 8 - 9 hrs drive.

We will start our journey early from Kathmandu. Your guide will pick you up from your hotel, and we will take a taxi to Machha Pokhari Bus Park, where our bus to Machha khola is departing. Along the way, you can enjoy scenic countryside views as we travel alongside the Trishuli River through the forested Middle Hills, leads to Malekhu, Dhading Besi and northwest to Arughat on the Budhi Gandaki. The road then drops to cross the Ankhu Khola and later, at Arughat, the Budhi Gandaki that drains the Manaslu - Tsum region. A further drive of about 3 hours up,  the west bank of the river leads to Machha Khola. Overnight at lodge

Day 4

Trek to Jagat (1340m./4396ft.), Distance: 23km./14.29ft., about 5 - 6 hrs walk

From Machha Khola, cross a river and ascend to Khorla Besi. Gradually, you will walk along beautiful farm fields and rice paddies and pass by lovely waterfalls and some landslides. You will enjoy the northeastern view of Ganesh Himal. The trail will take you to Tatopani village, famous for natural hot springs, and further across the Budhi Gandaki river on a thrilling suspension bridge. Passing by places, like Khorlabeshi, Tatopani, Uiya, and Lhakpa, and then you will reach Jagat. You will see Maniwalls, the MCAP and Customs offices in Jagat.

Day 5

Trek to Deng (1865m./6102ft.) via Phillim , Distance: 21km./13miles., about 6 - 7 hrs walk.

You will have a nice breakfast and start your journey. The trail steeply ascends over a rocky ridge to Salleri through a stone-paved trail. First, you will trek towards Salleri, then Sirdibas, where you will find many Mani Walls. From here, drop down to Sirdibas and continue trekking toward Ghatta Khola. You will then cross a long suspension bridge to reach Philim. You will stop at Chisapani for lunch on this day.  After lunch and then resting for a while, you will walk via Ekle Bhatti and reach Nyak. Trekking through grasslands, cross the Budhi Gandaki river, and walk along the riverbank. The trail gradually opens up, and you will pass by bamboo forests to Deng Khola. Cross the Deng Khola, after walking on this day for about 5-6 hours, you will reach the destination, Deng village. You can rest peacefully at Deng and enjoy a hearty dinner with the locals in the teahouse.

Day 6

Trek to Namrung (2630m./8626ft.), Distance: 19km./11.8miles., about 7 - 8 hrs walk.

After breakfast, we trek through the farmlands, cross a suspension bridge over the Budhi Gandaki River and climb to reach Rana. From here we climb for a while and then head west to Budhi Gandaki valley. The trail passes through forests and painted Mani stones and a corner from where we reach Ghap. Then we take the trail through Prok village which allows us to witness the beautiful view of Siring Himal. We follow the river, crossing it at many places, and pass through dense forests and Gompas along the way. After crossing the river at a gorge, the trail reaches another settlement, Namrung where we stay the night. Namrung is the best viewpoint for Siring and Ganesh Himal as well as Mt. Himal Chuli.

Day 7

Trek to Shyala (3500m./11480ft.), Distance: 11km./6.83miles., about 5 - 6 hrs walk.

In the morning, enjoy breathtaking mountain views as the valley unfolds before us. From Namrung, a steep climb and passage through forests take us to Lihi, a village well known for its chortens and barley terraces. After crossing the side valley of Simnang, we pass through Sho and then reach Lho We arrive in Lho, a picturesque settlement with a magnificent view of Manaslu and the tranquil Rebung Gompa monastery perched close to a mountain. Soon after leaving Lho, the trail drops steeply down and then ascend up. We walk through the sparsely populated woodland toward the neighboring village of Shyala which offers a spectacular view of Ngadi Chuli to the southwest. Stay overning in the local lodge.

Day 8

Trek to Sama Gaon (3520m./11549ft.), enroute visit to Pungen Gompa, Distance: 15.5km./9.63miles., about 4 - 5 hrs walk.

The trail from Shyala to Sama Gaun offer amazing views of the high mountains views, including Ngadi Chuli (Peak 29), Hiunchuli, Manaslu, Naike Peak, etc. From here, the trail goes straight for a while and then ascends. Further, walk following the side moraine of Pungyen Glacier and pass by ancient monasteries. The route further gets challenging and drops down to rock-strewn moraine and passes by widespread fields to Sama Gaun.

Day 9

Acclimatization day in Sama Gaon, Side Trip to Manaslu Base Camp or explore Birendra Lake

Today is our first rest and acclimatization day to the increasing altitudes on the trek. You have hiking options to Manaslu Base Camp, explore the surrounding areas, or to visit Birendra Tal and Anie Gompa. Birendra Lake takes about 2-3 hours to reach from Samagaon. You will find peace of mind once you reach the lake. Background of mountains adds beauty to the lake. You will spend some time there exploring, then detour back to Samagaon and spend the night. The tea houses here are simple but cozy. You will get basic amenities and a chance to interact with fellow trekkers.

Day 10

Trek to Samdo (3875m./12713ft.), Distance: 8km./ 4.9miles., about 4 hrs walk)

After breakfast, we hike through the beautiful and breathtaking trail from Samagaon to Samdo. Along this route, we will come across Maniwalls and many rock arch formations. Crossing pastures ascend to the valley and further trek through lush forests of birch & juniper. The mountain views along the way are mind-blowing today. You will descend to Budhi Gandaki River and cross the river through a wooden bridge. The trail then steeply climbs to Samdo. 

If you have an extra day that you would like to explore, we can take a detour from the Samdo trek and hike to the Tibet border. This would be a great opportunity to learn more about the local customs and cultures of the regions in Tibet. After a full day of exploration, we can return to Samdo to rest in the small village and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the Himalayan range

Day 11

Acclimatization day in Samdo, Side Trip to Rui La Pass, Tibetan Border (4998m./16397ft.), Distance about 11 km, about 4-5 hrs walk.

Rest day with the option to spend the day on a hike to the Tibetan border Rui La pass (4998m). The trail heads ahead following Athara Saya Khola(1800 rivers) to Rui La Pass from Samdo. The Rui La offers panoramic views of the Himalayas of both of Nepal and Tibet with Fukang Glacier. After completing the hike, return to Samdo.

Day 12

Trek to Dharamsala (4460m./14633ft.), Distance: aobut 12km./ 7.45miles., about 4 - 5 hrs walk.

Start our day with a hearty breakfast and make our way down to the Larkya Phedi. The trail descends through fields and mani walls, crossing a wooden bridge over the Budhi Gandaki river. As you ascend, the fluttering prayer flags and mani walls will show you're close to the top of the pass. Crossing two streams, you get to see dramatic views of Larkya Glacier. The route moves around the Salkha Khola valley and further ascends to Larkya La Phedi also known as Dharamsala. As we are about to spend the night at the Larkya’s rest house, we will do some acclimatization walks around the hill for our bodies to adjust to the altitude and prepare for our trek the following day.

Day 13

Trek to Bhimtang (3590m./11775ft. ) via Larkya La (5106m./ 16751ft.), about 25km./15.53miles., about 8 - 9 hrs walk.

Today is a big day and main highlights of the Manaslu Circuit Trek. After early breakfast, begin trekking towards Larkya La Pass. You may have to face strong winds and storms on the way. In the afternoon, generally, it will be windy so we try to cross the pass as early and faster as we can. The trail is challenging and steep grassy slope and walk along the edge. Ascends to the top of the pass that welcomes you with awe-inspiring views of Himalayan peaks like Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, and Annapurna II. Further, you will gently descend and reach a small meadow. From here onwards, the valley begins to widen and passes by mani walls and small houses to Bimtang. It is a beautiful settlement in a vast valley surrounded by towering peaks.

Day 14

Trek to Tilije (2,300m/7,544ft), Distance: about 26 km/16.2 miles , about 5 – 6 hrs walk.

Excellent views of Mt. Manaslu with Himlung Himal, Lamjung Himal, and other peaks are being offered while walking on the ridges at Bimthang. The trail slowly goes down through the pastureland of Sangre Kharka and crosses a bridge leading us all the way through beautiful rhododendron forests that blossoms magically during the spring months. In this way, we again walk through open areas taking us up towards the ridges,  and finally arrive at Tilije for an overnight stay.

Day 15

Trek to Dharapani (1930m./6440ft) , about 2 hrs walk, Drive to Riepe village Via Besishar 5-6 hrs drive

You will have to cover a distance of about 4 kilometers to reach Dharapani from Tilije. You will have to walk for about 2 hours along with the beautiful villages and Mani walls. Dharapani is the starting point of Annapurna Circuit Trek. You will finally catch a shared jeep to Besisahar from Dharapani where we stop for lunch and drive for about 1;30 hrs to get to Riepe village.

Day 16

Drive to Kathmandu (5-6 hrs ) or Pokhara (3-4 hrs )

After breakfast, we take a tuktuk to the hightway and drive back to kathmandu ro regulate your journey to Pokhara by local bus or micro van. Journey will take approximately 5-6 hrs to kathmandu and 3-4 hrs drive to get to Pokhara. You can also extend your stay in Riepe village for one more night.
