Our Budget Everest Base Camp Trek is perfect for trekkers who have limited vacation time but a strong desire to reach Everest Base Camp (5,364m / 17,600ft). The trek follows a faster 12-day trail without acclimatization days, so participants need to be physically strong and well-prepared. Although it is more challenging, it is one of the most exciting and rewarding ways to experience the Khumbu - Everest region.
Your adventure begins with a spectacular 35-minute mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,642m / 8,668ft). During peak seasons (March–May and September–November), flights operate via Ramechhap. After meeting your guide and porter in Lukla, you start trekking through beautiful Sherpa villages, experiencing warm hospitality, local culture, and Buddhist traditions. You will then enter Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, before reaching Namche Bazaar (3,440m / 11,287ft)—the economic and cultural heart of the Everest region. The trail continues to Tengboche, Pangboche, Dingboche, and Lobuche, where forests slowly turn into alpine landscapes as you approach the last village, Gorak Shep. From here, you trek along the edge of the Khumbu Glacier to reach Everest Base Camp, standing opposite the famous Khumbu Icefall. The next morning, a hike to Kala Patthar (5,550m / 18,210ft) offers the best 360-degree panoramic view of Mount Everest, Lhotse, and other towering peaks. The return journey follows the same route and becomes easier and quicker. This trek is possible throughout the year, but Spring and Autumn are the most popular seasons.

What can you expect from the Everest Base Camp trek?
How Do I Reach Lukla – One of the Most Thrilling Airports on Earth – From Kathmandu?
Lukla is a small Sherpa village and the main gateway to all treks and expeditions in the Everest region. Its famous Tenzing–Hillary Airport, located at 2,800 meters, is known for its short runway, exciting landings, and breathtaking scenery. Flying into Lukla in a small aircraft is an unforgettable experience, and your adventure truly begins before the trekking even starts.
The airport was established in 1964 and paved in 2001. For many years, flights were the only way to reach the area. Today, road access has slowly expanded and now reaches very close to Lukla. Last year, the road reached Thamdanda, and this year it has been extended all the way to Surke Village, which sits just below Lukla. This gives travelers more flexibility, allowing them to choose either air travel or an overland journey depending on their preference.
Flying from Kathmandu to Lukla
Flying from Kathmandu is the classic and fastest way to reach Lukla. The flight takes about 30 minutes and usually costs around USD 230 per person, one way. During the main trekking seasons—mid-September to mid-November and mid-March to mid-May—regular flights from Kathmandu stop because of heavy air traffic. During these times, all Lukla flights operate from Ramechhap Airport instead. Ramechhap is 135 km from Kathmandu, and the drive takes around four to five hours.
Taking a Helicopter to Lukla
A helicopter ride is the most reliable and convenient way to reach Lukla, especially because the weather in the Everest region can be unpredictable. Helicopters can operate in conditions that small airplanes often cannot, making them ideal during delays or busy seasons. The cost ranges from USD 500 to USD 700 per person, depending on availability and group size. Many travelers choose this option for comfort, time savings, or simply for the unique experience. Shared and private helicopter flights can be arranged anytime upon request.
Flying from Ramechhap to Lukla
During the peak trekking seasons, all regular flights operate from Ramechhap instead of Kathmandu. The flight from Ramechhap is short and can run throughout the day, which is why this airport is preferred during busy months. However, it is important to remember that weather delays are common in the Everest region. Flights may be delayed or canceled, so adding extra buffer days to your itinerary is always recommended to avoid unexpected travel disruptions.
Sagarmatha National Park Museum
A visit to this museum offers a wonderful introduction to the region. You can learn about the unique wildlife of Sagarmatha National Park, Sherpa traditions, and the mountaineering history that led to the first successful Everest expeditions. It is a short, informative visit that enriches your understanding of the area.
Tengboche Monastery
At 3,880 meters, Tengboche Monastery is the spiritual center of the Khumbu region. The surroundings are peaceful, with prayer flags fluttering in the wind and monks performing daily rituals. From here, you also get spectacular views of Everest, Ama Dablam, and many other peaks. It is one of the most memorable cultural experiences along the trek.
Nangkartsang / Dingboche Viewpoint
Located at 4,550 meters, this viewpoint offers some of the most stunning panoramas in the Everest region. From the top, you can see Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Everest, and several other towering Himalayan mountains. It is a rewarding acclimatization hike that most trekkers truly enjoy.
Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar
Reaching Everest Base Camp is a dream for trekkers around the world and a true lifetime achievement. Standing at the foot of the world’s highest mountain is an emotional and unforgettable experience. For the best mountain views, trekkers often climb Kala Patthar, which stands at 5,645 meters. This viewpoint offers the most breathtaking sunrise views of Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse. Although the climb is challenging, the reward is absolutely worth the effort.
