Ghorepani Poonhill trek is perfect for those with limited time but reasonable fitness. It showcases stunning mountain views, charming Gurung villages, and a lush rhododendron forest.

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a small circuit trail in the lower part of the Annapurna region. The prime destination of this trip is the breathtaking viewing point of Poon Hill. It offers a majestic sunrise over the magnificent snow-capped mountains, turning from grey to pink to brilliant white. This trek is relatively easy and can be done year-round, with autumn and spring being the most impressive seasons. It's suitable for all types of trekkers who want to experience a short trek in the Himalayas and learn about the culture.

Our trek starts from Nayapul, a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Pokhara. The trail passes through terraced rice fields, steep climbs up to Ulleri, a panoramic journey through the rhododendron forest, and an opportunity to witness the sunrise view from Poon Hill. Along the way, you'll experience the lush forests of rhododendron and oak, beautiful settlements of Gurung and Magar people, waterfalls, terraced rice fields, and learn about local culture and lifestyles.

Poon Hill is located at an altitude of 3210m, offering a stunning view of the mountains, such as Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurna (8,091m), Fishtail (6,997m), Annapurna South, Himchuli, and other neighboring peaks. The Ghangruk village is also a part of this trek, which is the habitation of Gurung people, known as Gurkhas, with a glorious history created in the Second World War. The village is surrounded by terraced farmlands, and the ethnic groups have distinct language, costumes, rituals, and lifestyles, making it a unique cultural experience.

Best Time for Trekking to Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Autumn season is considered as the best season for trekking in Ghorepani Poonhill Trek. The weather could be unpredictable at the higher altitudes but, every season has its own beauty and uniqueness.

Spring Season - March, April and May

The weather is spring seson is warmer and the forest blossoms with flowers and you can see green trees on the track. Springtime starts from the month of March and ends in May. The trekking trail will probably be crowded with a lot of trekkers at this time of the year but tt is the best time to enjoy the beautiful mountain views and landscapes.

Summer Season - June, July and August

Summer season is different in Nepal as it rains a lot and also called monsoon season. Pokhara, the starting point to Ghorepani Poonhill Trek, witnesses the most rainfall in the country. You just have to be prepared and plan your trek according to the season you are trekking. The hilly regions are moist and wet at this time of the year so the trekking routes are likely to get muddy and slippery.

Since it rains a lot, there is less crowded dust when its not raining and trail are pretty slippery. We will get the best view of the green landscape. The weather is quite harsh as it is sunny in the daytime and can rain anytime.

Autumn Season - September, October and November

Autumn season is the best season to trek anywhere in Nepal including Ghorepani Poonhill Trek. The weather is warm in the daytime and quite chilly in mornings and evenings. The temperature might drop below freezing point up in the higher altitudes. The best time to trek in Nepal is in the autumn season and the best month is in October and November. The trekking is busy and crowded but the view is perfect ( white mountain and blue sky)compared to summer and spring season.

Difficulty Level of Ghorepani Poonhill Trek - easy

Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is not considered to be a easy and short trek in Nepal as well as family trekking in Annapurna Regon. This trek is considered to be a moderate trek. Like Everest Base Camp Trek it is also demanding and the beautiful trek but with a bit of patience, Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is very enjoyable and achievable. Trekking and hiking through the mountain mean that there may be the adventure waiting for you at every step of your walk. Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is also a very short hiking.
