Best times to visit Nepal – Autumn Season ( September, October and November )
Autumn is one of the best times to visit Nepal. From September to November, weather in the Himalayas is clear and dry with great visibility – ideal for trekking. Two of Nepal’s major festivals, Dasain and Tihaar, also fall during this time. Overall the months of mid of September, October through to November are the best time to visit Nepal. With clear blue skies, pleasant warm temperatures and an abundance of vegetation post monsoon, these months are the optimum time to visit Nepal.
Green Season in Nepal – Summer or Monsson ( June, July and August )
Summer, from June to beginning of September, brings the monsoon season. These conditions, coupled with high heat and humidity deter crowds, making it a good time to visit if you want to misspeak season in the cities. Often the rains come at night, too, so days can still be beautiful. Unfortunately, the monsoon means trekking through many of Nepal's most popular areas is off the cards and it would be hard for trekking and tour to Nepal during this season compare to other peak season. But routes in the rain shadow like the Upper Mustang and Upper Dolpo are great alternatives.
Times with cool temperatures in Nepal – Winter ( December, January and February )
Winter in Nepal tends to be cold and dry. Between December to February, it will be cools off at night. Up in the mountains, with plenty of bright sunshine during the day, but temperature drop below zero at nightfall. These conditions cover the surrounding mountains in snow, and ensuring spectacular vistas along the hike. December through to February are some of Nepal’s coldest months, however clear blue skies and almost no rain make this a good time to visit the southern areas of Nepal such as Chitwan national park. High altitude trekking in these months is not recommended because of heavy snow fall and freezing cold.
Good times to visit Nepal – Spring ( March ,April and May )
Spring is another ideal time to head to Nepal. Wild rhododendrons burst into bloom, blanketing the Himalayas in shades of pink and red, the weather is pleasant and the days are longer. The colourful Holi festival is also celebrated in Nepal at the beginning of spring. March and April in Nepal are typically mild, before temperatures rise sharply in May. Nestled between the peak season and the end of monsoon, mid-September is an excellent time to visit if you want to avoid the main tourist period whilst still enjoying some excellent weather. Once the main tourist season is over, the months between December and May still remain a great time to visit Nepal. Between March and May the temperatures increase, making this an excellent time of the year for trekking and Peak climbing in the Himalayas.
