Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, is surrounded by hills and mountains that offer plenty of opportunities for mountain biking. Here's a description of what a day of mountain biking in Kathmandu could look like
Morning: Start your day early, by renting a mountain bike from one of the many bike rental shops in Kathmandu. Once you have your bike, head out to Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, which is just a short distance from the city. This park is a great place for mountain biking as it has a variety of trails suitable for all skill levels.
We started the ride with an 11 Km ride from Thamel to Tinpiple which is almost switchback and at times slightly uphill on a paved road early in the morning. We then rode off-road on the edge of Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park up to Tokha where we take a Nepali-tea break, on the way observing farmlands, watching children walking to school and experiencing local Newari communities and temples. From Tokha we climbed uphill through the Sivapuri forest for almost half an hour. From the top, we witnessed the panoramic view of the Kathmandu valley refreshing yourself with drinks. Gathering up, we rode downhill for 3 Km to Budanilkantha, where we visit the famous temple with the same name, also known to many as ‘Sleeping God’. Here, we took lunch, took rest for a while, and rode back to Thamel, ending our short-time together.
Evening: As the sun starts to set, head back to Kathmandu and make a stop at Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple. This iconic Buddhist temple is perched atop a hill and offers panoramic views of the city. After taking in the sights, you can bike down the hill to reach your final destination for the day
